This food tour was so much fun, thanks to our great guide Elena. We sampled all kinds of food, including vegan donuts, currywurst, Turkish food, and a bunch of different snacks from a night market. We drank a beer on the walk and had a glass of wine at the market, all included. Elena not only introduced us to a great selection of food, but also gave us interesting insights into the neighborhood, and was just a joy to be with—her enthusiasm was contagious and our small group had a lovely time chatting with her and with each other, and eating our way through the evening. It's the perfect way to explore a city, ask questions and eat a range of different treats. Elena was fantastic. She properly made me laugh (later found out she's a trained actress and it fits - she's so expresive and engaging!) We were the only ones on the tour (because it's January!) which meant we could ask lots of questions and speak to the lovely American fella who came along because he's training to be a tour guide too. The four of us had a brilliant time. All of the stops were slightly different and had a story of why they featured. The falafel is still one of the best things I've eaten! Brilliant. I joined Fork & Walk for the pop-up Dong Xuan Center tour I saw on Instagram. This is such an under-explored part of Berlin, and it’s quite hard to access or know what’s going on if you don’t have a guide. Our guide, Paul, spoke fluent Vietnamese and English and lead us through his favourite Vietnamese classics he ate growing up in a Vietnamese household in the US, and from his time living in Hanoi. The Gendarmenmarket Christmas market is unique and special. Beautiful stands, lots of original decorations and handmade items. Best of all, numerous ways to get out of the freezing cold because it has indoors arts and crafts stands and indoor restaurants where you can sit down if you don’t want to stand outside to nosh on Wursts and drink Gluwein.
